IBM Internet Security Systems Accelerates Network Performance with New Intrusion Prevention Applianc

Posted on May 23, 2007December 30, 2021 by admini

By adding the Proventia Network IPS GX6116 to its Internet Security Systems (ISS) product line, IBM offers comprehensive, ahead-of-the-threat protection for the various layers of an enterprise network.

High-performance applications such as Internet telephony that operate at the network core require security solutions capable of delivering high throughput, maximum scalability and low latency. Fifteen gigabit per second (Gbps) throughput Six gigabit per second (Gbps) inspection Protection across eight network segments Configurable latency Protection at very high network speeds allows companies to implement security at the network core without impacting business and network performance.

In addition to meeting the needs of large enterprises, the GX6116 also bolsters IBM ISS’ ability to protect next-generation telecommunications networks, cellular IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) backbone networks, VoIP deployments and hosting environments by leveraging IBM ISS’ protocol analysis technology.

By infusing products with security intelligence from the IBM Internet Security Systems X-Force® research and development team and its unique IBM Virtual Patch® technology, IBM security solutions are designed to protect customers before their business assets are impacted by online intrusions.

Intel, PGP In Security Hookup

Posted on May 12, 2007December 30, 2021 by admini

PGP security encryption is available now, but Phil Dunkelberger, president and CEO of PGP, thinks this will widen its appeal. Dunkelberger said PGP will be doing special development projects with Intel to adapt applications and systems utilities to utilize PGP technologies.

The PGP Encryption Platform is an enterprise framework for shared user and key management, policy, and provisioning automated across multiple, integrated encryption applications. PGP Whole Disk Encryption provides complete, constant disc encryption in real time, protecting the disk drive in its entirety, not just application data at the individual file level.

RSA enVision boasts HA features and integration with EMC storage.

Posted on May 12, 2007December 30, 2021 by admini

Key features listed for the IPDB include a write-optimized architecture that stores the collected event and log data in its raw form–no pre-processing required (but with compression and encryption); WORM support for the protection of stored data; and direct support for the storage of Internet Protocol information (IP address, MAC address, hostname, etc.).

In addition to this, the appliance offers “Universal Device Support”–including a user interface for the definition of new messages, their payload data, and their classifications–allowing the integration of custom event sources.

Oracle Makes Bid to Streamline Data Auditing

Posted on May 7, 2007December 30, 2021 by admini

“It’s really about knowing what’s happening inside those databases, who’s doing what,” Vipin Samar, vice president of database security at Oracle said in an interview with eWEEK. Oracle officials also stated Audit Vault can help cut the cost of compliance by making it easier for auditors and security personnel to manage and report on audit data, officials added. “I think database auditing and monitoring helps to demonstrate to auditors and regulators that controls are in place…and provide evidence of the effectiveness of those controls,” said Trent Henry, an analyst with the Midvale, Utah-based Burton Group, in an interview.

That’s what a monitoring tool like this does, so it’s highly complementary (to Oracle’s other database products).”

Sweetening the Honeypot

Posted on April 24, 2007December 30, 2021 by admini

“We are aware that in the past installing and maintaining and analyzing data from honeynets has been somewhat resource intensive,” says Ralph Logan, principal with The Logan Group and vice president of the Honeynet Project. The services are based on a new version of the alliance’s Capture-HPC client honeypot software. He says the tools are intended for organizations that can’t or don’t want to have their own client honeynet.

Meanwhile, the Honeynet Project’s soon-to-be-announced Global Distributed Honeynet, a distributed network of honeynets, automatically analyzes honeypot attack data gathered from various honeypot and honeynet locations around the world.

Kevin Mandia, who worked on the Honeynet Project until 2001, says honeynets are great for research and academia, but he would not recommend any of his clients in the government and enterprise world put one up.

Honeynets determine the “who and why” of insider attacks, notes Logan, versus security products such as firewalls and IDS that look more at the when, how, and what.
