Check Point to acquire NFR Security

Posted on December 19, 2006December 30, 2021 by admini

The acquisition of Rockville, Md.-based NFR Security, founded a decade ago by IDS pioneer Marcus Ranum, follows Check Points failure earlier this year to complete the acquisition of IDS and IPS vendor Sourcefire. NFR Security, which has 22 employees, does not publish figures related to its earnings. While not discussing NFR Securitys exact earnings, Shwed acknowledged NFR isnt a big money-maker, but it isnt losing money.

Gartner analyst John Pescatore said the NFR Security acquisition is clearly a replacement for the failed merger with Sourcefire. Pescatore said the merger between Check Point and NFR Security will probably work out well because NFR Security has good technologies that can be combined with Check Points strength in firewalls and management.

EMC Boosts Security Level of Network Analysis Software

Posted on December 13, 2006December 30, 2021 by admini

This new support gives users two layers of security, providing full encryption of packets as well as full encryption and authentication for polling and discovery.

With IP Tagging, users can better handle overlapping IP addresses in both IP and MPLS environments, company officials said.

“The EMC Smarts architecture allows us to integrate all of our siloed management systems, including in-house-developed systems, into one correlation console,” said John Premus, Chief Technology Officer JRI America in a statement.

“Of all the solutions tested, we found that only EMC Smarts software provides the levels of business logic necessary, without forcing us to write complex rules to capture every possible scenario,” Premus said.

Further upgrades include enriched support for key management environments like MPLS, and wider integration with system and application instrumentation solutions.

Oracle Spurs Single Sign-On Surge

Posted on December 8, 2006December 30, 2021 by admini

The password reset problem is especially acute in environments like Oracle’s, where users may log onto half a dozen different apps, sometimes hosted on different servers and operating systems, on a given day.

The new Oracle suite is designed to help with that problem, according to Hasan Rizvi, vice president of security and identity management products at Oracle.

Oracle’s suite, which supports SAML, could be a stepping stone to more full-blown federated ID management environments that enable users to log onto many apps with the same password, analysts say.

Fortifying Identity Products

Posted on December 1, 2006December 30, 2021 by admini

SiteMinder 6.0 SP5, which securely provisions access rights across the Internet as a key piece of CA’s IAM platform, now better supports so-called “strong authentication,” which includes tokens, smartcards and biometrics.

Along the lines of providing more choice, SiteMinder provides a new federation end point, which uses technology licensed from Ping Identity, to improve security provisioning among partners in the federation. “The idea of SiteMinder is that if you have a Web application that many business partners need to get to, you’ll need a hub a platform on which to support that federation,” Gardiner said.

SiteMinder, acquired through CA’s Netegrity purchase, is the key policy engine of CA’s IAM suite, but the company spruced up other pieces of its IAM suite.

In HP’s IdM suite, HP Select Audit software has been integrated with HP’s Select Identity, Select Federation and Select Access, adding audit, attestation, monitoring, alerting, reporting and archiving capabilities to those applications. HP conducted some integration and improvements to its own identity and access management software suite, according to Sai Allavarpu, director of product management and marketing for identity and security management at HP.

More Security Wares Lined up For Vista

Posted on November 14, 2006December 30, 2021 by admini

For reasons of clarity, not to mention legal coverage, ESET defines its newest area of coverage as “unwanted applications.”

ESET isn’t the first vendor to jump on board the Vista security bandwagon, despite repeated assurances from Microsoft of its safety and security. GRISOFT, developer of the free AVG security software, has announced its AVG Anti-Virus 7.5 software is available on the Microsoft Windows Security Center for Windows Vista.
