The InterSTELLAR Partner Program is designed to fast-track the growth of Stellar Cyber’s reseller partners by enabling them to become proficient and compete for a share of the XDR technology market, which Gartner predicts will be a top priority for CISOs in 2023.

Rapid7 Adds To MDR Platform With $38M Acquisition Of Minerva Labs

Rapid7 announced an acquisition Wednesday that aims to boost its managed detection and response (MDR) platform with additional capabilities for thwarting attacker evasion tactics and preventing malware deployment.
The Boston-based company said it has acquired Minerva Labs for $38 million in a cash and stock deal.
In a news release, the company said that the acquisition will extend its managed threat detection offering with capabilities for orchestration of “advanced” ransomware prevention.

Security Appliance Market Tops $6.1 Billion in a Single Quarter

According to market research firm IDC, the security appliance market saw a substantial increase year over year, with five manufacturers dominating in the fourth quarter of 2022.
Total revenues for security appliances worldwide came in slightly above $6.11 billion — a 4.7% increase from the same period the previous year.
The top-5 manufacturers accounted for more than half of that, about $3.529 billion.
Palo Alto Networks topped the list, at $973.75 million, representing growth of 10.2% from the same period last year.
Fortinet, which saw the greatest growth among the top 5, at 24.5% year over year, came in at $966.61 million.
Cisco was third at $921.08 million, with 4% YoY growth.
Check Point came in fourth, at $473.04 million with 2.3% growth.
And SonicWALL rounded out the top 5 at $194.16 million, with 5.8% growth.
According to IDC, the Americas saw the strongest overall growth, at 10% year over year, with the United States leading the way.
Overall, unified threat management (UTM) and firewalls accounted for 77.3% of the security appliance market, with UTM seeing the strongest growth of any category, at 8.9%.

Microsoft and CrowdStrike once again dominate Gartner’s Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection.
Cybereason has risen to the leaders quadrant and Trellix has fallen to a niche player.
Microsoft, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Trend Micro and Sophos were recognized by Gartner as endpoint protection leaders both this year and last, but their position within the quadrant has shifted.
Last year, Microsoft and CrowdStrike sat way above the pack in execution ability, and Trend Micro was a distant third.
The gap between the top two and everyone else has shrunk dramatically, and SentinelOne is now in third place.
Firstbrook said SentinelOne appeals to late-stage buyers in sectors such as manufacturing and retail where legacy operating systems are more pervasive and clients have environments that aren’t fully connected to the internet.
And Trend Micro and Sophos are the only leaders who can bundle endpoint protection and robust network security technology together.
Sophos excels in Europe and Trend in APAC.
In completeness of vision, Gartner last year saw CrowdStrike and Microsoft as head and shoulders above everyone else.
But this year, Microsoft barely beat SentinelOne for the silver, and Cybereason trailed closely behind in fourth place.
Cybereason leapfrogged from the visionaries to the leaders quadrant due to dramatic improvements in execution ability, where the company jumped from 12th place last year to fourth this year.
A larger percentage of Cybereason customers are using MDR technology than any of its peers, and Cybereason has benefited from investments in the government vertical and a SecOps partnership with Google, Firstbrook said.
CrowdStrike does well with sophisticated banks and financial institutions looking to secure the cloud, while Microsoft appeals more to smaller C-suite buyers than technical buyers, according to Firstbrook.
Moving in the opposite direction was Trellix, which was formed early last year through the combination of the FireEye products and McAfee Enterprise organizations.
Although McAfee on its own had been recognized as an endpoint protection leader by Gartner, the combined organization only achieved niche player status due to what Firstbrook saw as challenges in integrating the two distinct product portfolios.
Trellix lags behind the market in making a unified XDR offering available to clients, and the company’s products are unlikely to appeal to people beyond the legacy McAfee and FireEye customer bases, Firstbrook said.
The separation from Mandiant and the spinout of Skyhigh Security will make it harder for Trellix to deliver managed security services and help customers with consolidating their security stacks.

Splunk adds new security and observability features

The company’s Observability Cloud, which offers AIops-based infrastructure monitoring, application performance monitoring (APM) and intelligence, will get new features that will help IT operation and development operation teams troubleshoot faster and with increased visibility, to enable a unified approach to incident response, the company said.
The company has added new autodetect capabilities inside Splunk APM that will use cludmachine learning to reduce manual effort and improve the accuracy of alerts in addition to its existing Incident Intelligence feature, which allows teams in enterprises to diagnose, remediate and restore services faster, Splunk said.
Further, Splunk is adding an IM Network Explorer designed to enable enterprise teams to monitor and assess the health of their cloud network.
